SpaceX has posted what appears to be its first Louisiana job opening tied directly to the company's planned Pecan Island launch site — and the language in the posting is unusually explicit.

The company is hiring an External Affairs Manager for Pecan Island.

More important than the title is how SpaceX describes the location.

The posting says the person will lead external affairs for SpaceX at “our new launch site at Pecan Island in Louisiana.”

That matters because it is one of the clearest direct statements yet from SpaceX itself about the company's intentions in coastal Louisiana.

The position is not an engineering or construction role.

It is focused on government relationships, community engagement, policy and public outreach — exactly the kind of work that becomes increasingly important as a major development moves from site selection and planning toward a more public phase.

SpaceX is hiring someone to manage Louisiana relationships

The job posting lists the position in Pecan Island, Louisiana, and says the manager will work across local and state government relationships, community and business relations and educational outreach.

Among the listed responsibilities:

SpaceX specifically says the role will support both SpaceX and SpaceXAI priorities in Louisiana.

The company also says applicants must live in or near Vermilion Parish, be willing to travel statewide and attend political and industry events on behalf of SpaceX and SpaceXAI.

That gives the position a much broader mandate than simply managing public relations around one parcel of coastal property.

This is another step beyond speculation

For months, residents around Pecan Island watched property activity, survey work and other signs of a major prospective development while trying to determine whether SpaceX was behind it.

The project eventually moved into the open.

Now SpaceX itself is recruiting for a position attached directly to what it calls its new Pecan Island launch site.

Louisiana media outlets reported the opening Tuesday as the first job posted for the Louisiana facility. WBRZ reported that the position follows the state's announcement of a major SpaceX investment in August.

The hiring does not by itself establish a construction schedule, launch date or final buildout.

But it is a tangible operational step.

Companies do not generally hire people to manage government officials, regulators, community relationships and statewide policy around a location they are treating only as a hypothetical site.

The posting does not explain what SpaceXAI activity, if any, is specifically planned for Pecan Island.

It would be premature to infer a separate AI facility or project from that language alone.

But its inclusion is notable because it broadens the stated scope of the Louisiana government-affairs role beyond launch operations.

For now, the safest conclusion is narrow:

SpaceX expects its Louisiana external-affairs operation to support both SpaceX and SpaceXAI interests.

What that ultimately means on the ground remains to be seen.

The posting directly confirms several things.

SpaceX considers Pecan Island a new launch site.
